• Title of the book(s) to be used:
Jump, Kangaroo, Jump! By Stuart J. Murphy
Polar Bear Math by Ann Nagda and Cindy Bickel

• Other Materials (for activities)
Glue stick, liquid glue, unsharpened pencil, crayons, pencil with eraser, ruler

• TEKS Objectives: §111.16. Mathematics, Grade 4.
• The student will construct concrete models of fractions, compare fractional parts of whole objects or sets of objects in a problem situation using concrete models, use fraction names and symbols to describe fractional parts of whole objects or sets of objects, and construct concrete models of equivalent fractions for fractional parts of whole objects.

• Procedure:
a. Warm-up Activities:
• The student will read Jump, Kangaroo, Jump! By Stuart J. Murphy.
• The student will then look through Polar Bear Math by Ann Nagda and Cindy Bickel.
• I will explain the parts of a fraction and different models used in fractions.

b. Main Activities:
• For the first activity, Fraction Models. My student will use the set model, area model, and measurement model to figure out fractions. There will be several examples for each.
• For the second activity, the student will fill out their Comparing Fractions book. The student will compare one fraction to another fraction.

c. Follow-up Activity:
• As a follow-up activity, I will have the student see how fractions can be equivalent, see which fractions are equivalent, and find other equivalent fractions, using Equivalent Fractions.

d. Assessment:
• To assess my student’s understanding, I will use the activity Polka-Dot. I will show the student fraction cards, it will either have a fraction statement, model, or equivalent problem. The cards will be in a special envelope that shows the problem, 2 or 3 different answers, and 3 holes. The student will choose their answer by poking the dot of their choice with a pencil. I will then pull the card up, if the student’s answer is correct the card will not come out of the envelope. If the student is wrong, the card will come up easily and the student will try it again.

Could you explain how you make these special envelopes for the Polka-dot activity?
