• Title of the book(s) to be used:
How Much Is a Million? By David M. Schwartz
The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins
The King’s Chessboard by David Birch
Divide and Ride by Stuart J. Murphy

• Other Materials (for activities)
Note cards, pens, unsharpened pencil, dry erase board, dry erase markers

• TEKS Objectives: §111.16. Mathematics, Grade 4.
• The student will add and subtract to solve meaningful problems involving whole numbers and decimals, multiply and divide to solve meaningful problems involving whole numbers, and use patterns in multiplication and division.

• Procedure:
a. Warm-up Activities:
• The student will look through How Much Is a Million? By David M. Schwartz, The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins, The King’s Chessboard by David Birch, and Divide and Ride by Stuart J. Murphy.
• The student will then play an activity called, Math Slide. The student will solve the first set of math problems on the cards put in front of them. When they think they have answer, the student will place the card in the math slide and the answer will show up on the back. If the answer is correct they move on to the next card. If the answer is wrong they will have to find out how they got the answer wrong.

b. Main Activities:
• The student will play the Math Slide again this time with the second set of math problems.
• My student will then play the second activity, Pizza Tic-Tac-Toe. The student and I will play together. The pizza slices will be divided up equally between us. When we match the pizza slice to the correct answer in the pizza box, we get to place our x/o on the Tic-Tac-Toe board in the pizza box. First one to match all the pizza slices and get three in a row wins.

c. Follow-up Activity:
• As a follow-up activity, I will have my student write a Math Journal. The student will write what they have learned and what they liked best.

d. Assessment:
• To assess my student’s understanding, I will use the game Math Jeopardy. I will play along with my student. We will take turns in answering a math problem from the Jeopardy board. Whoever has the most points in the end wins.
