• Title of the book(s) to be used:
The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins
The King’s Chessboard by David Birch

• Other Materials (for activities)
Monster hat, note cards, markers, pens, construction paper, scissors,

• TEKS Objectives:
• The student will use multiplication properties and rules of division, multiply by one-digit numbers, multiply by two-digit numbers, divide by one-digit numbers, and divide by two-digit numbers.

• Procedure:
a. Warm-up Activities:
• The student will read The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins.
• The student will then read The King’s Chessboard by David Birch.

b. Main Activities:
• I will bring out my first activity for my student to play, Multiplication Monster. My student will pull multiplication problems out of the Monster hat. The student will answer the multiplication problem that they pull out. If the student answers the problem correctly, they get to move on to the next problem. When all the problems have been answered correctly, the student will be given the choice to wear the Monster hat.
• My student will then play the second activity, Division Pizza Delivery. The student will draw a division problem from the stick of cards. If the student answers the problem correctly, the student will get to put parts of the pizza together.

c. Follow-up Activity:
• As a follow-up activity, I will use the game Math Jeopardy. There are three columns with 5 card choices under each title for the student to pick from, Multiplication, Division, and Mix. The student will pick the category of their choice, the card of their choice, and answer the problem on the card.

d. Assessment:
• To assess my student’s understanding, I will use the game Math Toss. The student will toss a small stuffed animal on to a shower curtain. Where ever the toy lands, the student will pick up the card and answer the math problem that is on it. The student is given as many chances as they need to get the answer right.
