3-5: Tissue Paper Flowers For Valentines Day
Make single flower in a vase or a whole bouquet.
Students can create a bouquet of flowers for their loved ones for valentines day.
Materials
1. Colored tissue paper
2. Pipe cleaners
3. Scissors
Directions
1. Instruct kids to select 1, 2, or 3 colors and to stack about 10 pieces of tissue paper in those colors. Have them cut the stack into a “dog bone” shape about 4 inches long, and at least 1 inch thick.
2. Have them push a pipe cleaner up through the center of the bone shaped pieces (this will be the stem). Fan them around so they create a circle shape.
3. Bend down the top end of the pipe cleaner to keep the petals fixed on the stem.
4. Pinch the bases of the petals and shape the petals upward into a flower. You can shape buds or blooms.
5. Wrap the base of the flower with the lower stem (see picture) to hold the bloom in place.
Students can get creative with their bouquet and experiment with a variety of petal shapes, leaves, etc.
