I have no kids of my own yet so for now my dog is the object of my affection...I have a feeling many others consider their pets a part of their family. What kind of dog/cat/etc. do you have?
My pup is a Shiba Inu...she is the sweetest dog I have ever met! (just a little biased).

My black lab is definitely my baby for now. His name is Bear and he's the sweetest dog! We rescued him several years back from the Golden Retriever rescue. He's got a fierce bark and is super protective, but he's really a giant lap dog. Animals definitely make life more interesting:)

Our family consists of 5 - my wife and myself, plus Archer the male tuxedo cat, Phu Bai, the who knows what exactly (adopted from the shelter, probably a male chihuahua/terrier mix, likely about 12/13 years old) and Tenzing Norgay (usually called "Tenzie") a male Lhasa Apso puppy who joined us last August. He's about 10 months old now and full of the puppy crazies.
Phu Bai and Archer are allies against the "Tenzinator", as he's often called (yesterday he somehow got into my book bag, extracted about 20 pencils and destroyed then all.)
As I asked my wife, "Are we too old to have children?"

The girls, as we call them, are Pugs. To me there are People, Pets and Pugs...all very distinct.

Dzintra and I share our home with Skinkis (our male dog of very "rich" pedigree - we'll celebrate his first birthday this coming Sunday) and Runcis (our fema\le cat). In our garden there are (asleep at this period four turtles: Diegabiksis and Mazais (both males) and Chelona and Jauna (noth females).

I believe that animals are a blessing. even when they get naughty or do some damage, I just love them. :-)

When I was going out with a girl, she had a Pug whose name was Pugsley. After going out a week, she picked up Pugsley, pointed to him and said, "If anything ever comes of us (meaning me and her) he (meaning Pugsley) would always come first. Now, 35 years and 11 Pugs later...I know that my wife wasn't kidding. That's how I got my first Pug...the sweetest little beings in the world. :)

I love pugs! Unfortunately our apartment complex doesn't allow for pets. When I get my own place, I definitely want to get a pug. Speaking of pets, our class has guppies and caterpillars. The children are so proud. They say "We have pets in our class. We're cool." Once, a teacher asked if she could borrow our caterpillars to show her kids (there were also crysallis). I said sure. But the kids were so protective. "Where are you going with our caterpillars? No, it belongs to the Poohs." I had to reassure them that it was okay and that they would return it.

My BFM (beloved family mutt) is Bailley. Her picture is my avatar. I have three cats: Faith (the tiger), Mooch (the black kitty who is the sister to Faith) and Mocha (the Siamese). They are my life.

I was raised by dogs (a standard poodle and a tri-cdolor collie in succession) and have always either had one or longed for one. The latest is a black lab/setter mix we've had for six years and who, at about eight years of age (a guess, we got him from a shelter who found him tied to their door one day) is still a puppy at heart. When we adopted two kittens recently he helped pick them out.

Nisfomimfa...to me there are People, Pets and Pugs...each is very distinct. Pugs being of the highest order because they always forgive you and are willing to do whatever you want (eating being their favorite, with sleeping as 2nd choice and playing a close 3rd).

One little Pug story...for those who may care a little about Pugs.

When my son was a little todler, we had three Pugs (momma and two daughters). One day they argued (OK, they were fighting over a toy). My son thought that they were playing and JUMPED onto the pile of fighting Pugs. All three immediately stopped and backed away. They would not even consider hurting my son (who obviously deserved to get it from them for doing something like that). OK, one other story. One day my wife was yelling at my son (I don't remember why) and the momma Pug walked between my wife and son and started barking at my wife...no one was going to talk to "her" little boy like that!

I have an assortment of animals--but no kids. I have currently 8 cats--all are rescues except for two who 'found' me, a bird dog, a rescued Jack Russell mix, and a cockatiel (has only learned two whistles in ten years). I've had geese, a regular pig (husband's idea) a ferret and a pygmy goat. I am also honored to have a neighbor's cat to come visit me at school and stay in my office. She loves to lay on my work! Needless to say, I have a pretty good principal.

I like your stories Joel. Believe me, once I get a chance, I am DEFINITELY gonna get a pug. Like you said, I love how they're just so mellow. I like toy poodles, but sometimes they can get a little too hyper for my taste. When I was researching pugs, I was surprised to hear that the reason why they make that snorting noise is because they have asthma. I thought, it must be kismet because I have asthma too! Would you suggest getting a girl or a boy pug first?

I have a funny looking dog named Cooper- he is part Spaniel, Corgi, Retriever and a few other types I am not sure about.  Basically think of a Golden Retriever shrunk down to a Corgi size  with very short legs and a long body.  Very funny dog with a unique personality- everyone at the dog park knows Cooper!
