Posted about 1 year ago Do you remember a particular lesson that you learned in school? Three stand out in my mind that were so genius that I have used them in my classroom. The first was in first grade. We came into class one Monday and it had a space ship in the middle of the room. All of our desks has purple play-dough "space rocks" on them. We read the book My Pet Space Rock and it kicked off our space unit. It was so much fun for us as kids! The second was in third grade, we were learning and practicing cursive writing. We each had journals to practice in. Each day my teacher would write a riddle on the board, we would copy the riddle down and try to guess the answer on the back of the page. There was a riddle for each letter A-Z. I still have my journal and use the riddles with my students, they love them! The last was from fifth grade. We were learning about the scientific method and being specific in our recording. My teacher had everyone write "directions" about how to make a peanut butter and Jelly sandwich. Then, she took out peanut butter, jelly, and bread and asked us one by one to read our directions to her. She made the sandwiches EXACTLY the way our directions stated (think Amelia Bedelia style). It was great to see the other kids faces as they saw what they had actually written as directions. It was such fun and taught us a great lesson about communication and recording! |
