What do you do to release stress from work?

Posted 2 months ago I need to know how you release stress from work and school? I'm doing both with a family and I'm running on empty. Any tips on how to stay healthy would be appreciated!
Thanks! |

| Posted 2 months ago I know it's going to sound counter-intuitive, but the best way I've found to reduce stress is exercise. The problem is finding, or rather MAKING time to do it. But it's truly amazing how, feeling dragged out and exhausted, even as little as thirty minutes of exercise will refresh me. |

| Posted 2 months ago I agree with John. I've recently taken up yoga and it has had an astounding impact on my life. I totally relax during the session and can get much of that same feeling at any time just be concentrating on my breathing and standing correctly. | Posted 2 months ago Exercise. Take B vitamins. Get physical with another human (cuddling, body contact). I feel for you! I was working at an engineering company when I went for my M.Ed. and I had 4 children between the ages of 3 and 11. Hang in there. You will do it because you can. | Posted 2 months ago I try to do something that has nothing to do with school or kids.
I get a good book and sit ouside or in a quiet place to read- just for a half hour. I may not finish the book for 6 months, but with just a few quiet times throughout the week taking my mind to a different place, it's helps center me.
I also like to get to the YMCA if time allows and work out. Even just taking a walk in the neighborhood and getting some fresh air can help a lot, too. Sometimes after being in a classroom all day, it's nice to be outside! |

I completely agree! Receiving love and attention from your significant other is the only way I could fill my basket of apples. With the population of children I worked with, I was giving out all of my apples everyday. You need to make sure you situate your life so if you give out all of your apples you have someone to fill your basket back up again. |

| Posted 2 months ago Sometimes I do a puzzle at http://www.jigzone.com or I visit http://www.websudoku.com/ and do a sudoku puzzle. TheApple, for me is a great stress reliever. It causes me to focus on someone else's problem which usually brings me to the realization that my life ain't so bad. I mean when you hear someone teaches in a penetentiary and still keeps their cool, you think."what am I complaining about!" |

| Posted 2 months ago The most effective way for me was to retire. For those who are less fortunate...I also like to listen to old time radio shows...like Sherlock Holmes, the Shadow, etc. You can get them online (CDs) at places like The Radio Lady. When people see me with my iPod they think I'm listening to music...I'm not. I listen to the radio programs. The Story Starter provides 373,067,200 creative ideas for writers.

| Posted 2 months ago Thanks! I do exercise, but I guess just not enough. I have PT that I've been missing so I have to get there to get my neck and hand back in shape. I just don't have time for me and that's what is frustrating and I need extra time so that I can get everything done. I wish there were a few more hours in a day.
San, thanks for the encouragement! Any other tips will be appreciated!

Give yourself permission to have "me" time without feeling guilty! Treat yourself to: girls night out...pedicure...spa day...shop...OR ALL THE ABOVE! |

| Posted about 1 month ago I play, sing or listen to music. Depending on how stressed I am, determines the style of music that I choose. I've also personally found out that washing dishes by hand is a great stress reliever for me. It gives me time to think and relax and concentreate on something else for a while. |

| Posted about 1 month ago If I'm stress, I'll just sit and then listen to my favorite praising songs or read inspirational stories, qoutes or cellphone messages, do some enjoyable steps of excersing, or eat in the favorite restaurants with my peers, or sometimes sing with my favorite videoke songs. |

| Posted about 1 month ago It can be extremely overwhelming in your situation, Cindy. One thing I have to force myself to do is to worry about one thing at a time. I know this sounds impossible as you are working and in school and a mother. But, mainly for me relating to schoolwork, I know that I must get the 1st thing done before I can get the 10th thing done. Just keep moving forward and you'll be just fine... I hope!!! |

| Posted about 1 month ago I will be better then fine, thanks! I'm just exhausted! I've been through worse and I'll get through this. I need to learn to give myself breaks when I need them. I do too much for everyone else and not enough for myself. I recently had a professor who thought I was in my twenties say," why are you so tired?" When I explained to her all I had going on, she couldn't believe I put so much on myself. She did teach me a lesson and it's true. You need to take care of yourself so you can take care of others. |

This can help from time to time, but running and yoga are my usual methods. |
