Creating a classroom podcast can be both instructional and fun. Your students can create their own program. A computer's built in microphone/recording software is all you need. Upload your gem to iTunes and you're online. Although it's no longer in operation, Bob Sprankle's podcast was one of the first and best. Listen to some of his students' shows at http://www.bobsprankle.com/blog/C1697218367/index.html. As usual, when someone does something exceptional, they take him out of the classroom. Sprankle is no longer is a classroom teacher. :(

You can create podcasts even without a computer in your classroom!  If you have a telephone your students can record podcasts using it.  Check out Gabcast and Gcast.

There are various ways to create a podcast. The more important part is to actually do it. A great time to start is the beginning of the school year. Your podcast could be based upon the news (within your classroom and outside it), it could be subject related (i.e. the president of the week), or anything else you and your students can think of.

Try it...you'll like it.
