Video in your classroom...?

Posted 3 months ago Do any of you work in a school that has video cameras in each classroom? Would you want to? |

Do you mean teacher-controlled cameras for making videos or 'security' cameras? "Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence." ~~ Abigail Adams (1744 - 1818) |

| Posted 3 months ago I am talking about video cameras that record what is done in the classroom...all the time...for security reasons and to check up on the teachers and/or students. |

| Posted 3 months ago I have nothing to hide, I also keep my door open all the time, so bring them on. "Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence." ~~ Abigail Adams (1744 - 1818) |

| Posted 3 months ago I agree with you! If you have nothing to hide, a video would only be a positive factor. It would, of course, keep you on your toes all the time. Deven says ...

| Posted 3 months ago I think it would be fine, I actually would really like it so that I could "show" parents exactly how their children act in class. I think there are times when parents are in denial or don't believe us when we present a problem in the classroom. It would be nice to have real life support. |

| Posted 3 months ago It's funny this question was posted. Last year, I subbed in an urban school for most of the year. A great number of these students were, let's say challenging. In December, during winter break, the district installed new water sprinklers, and smoke detectors. When the kids came back in January I told them the detectors were actually cameras. I know it was a little white lie, but you wouldn't believe the difference in their behavior! I would have no problem with cameras in my classroom. I would welcome them. Like a couple of you mentioned, it would give the teacher the opportunity to show the parent what their 'sweet and innocent' child was doing in class. |

| Posted 3 months ago No and I wouldn't want to. I have nothing to hide but it would feel like I was not trusted. My door is always open, my room is nearly across the hall from administration, so let them visit. As a test for myself and my teaching ability, I filmed my class for several days. One student mooned the camera while my back was turned. Children are the living messages we will send into a time we will not see. – John W. Whitehead |

| Posted 3 months ago As you put it, video taping is about the teacher. As a parent (in addition to a teacher) shouldn't video taping be about how the student and parent could benefit. Remember, with video cams, it's possible for a parent to watch what happens in the classroom...conduct as well as content. It would also be very helpful when a student was unable to go to school, either due to illness or...suspension. There's more to video taping than first thought of... sanmccarron says ...

| Posted 3 months ago I'm not sure if this is possible in THE APPLE, but...how about if we have a survey? Would you want your classroom to be video taped all the time? Yes No My vote is YES. |

| Posted 3 months ago A parent of a 1st grade student that was in my class several years ago told me that the state they just moved from had internet accessible cameras in EACH classroom. Parents could simply log on and see what their child was doing at the moment.
I can't remember which state. I want to say Georgia.
