| Posted about 1 month ago The first year I had a chance to get a smart board, I turned it down. I figured since I was moving from 5th grade to 2nd grade that year, I had enough to learn. The following year, I got my smart board, and now I wouldn't teach without it. I have used it daily the last 2 years. I think teachers are unsure about what they can do with it. They just need to observe a teachers using a smart board in class, and they will want one. |

| Posted about 1 month ago I am dying to get my hands on a smartboard. My school got four of them at the start of last year, supposedly two for each floor, but they've never made it out of our technology room. The principal says it is some problem with getting the carts for the projectors assembled. I hope that when we come back in September they will finally be ready. | Posted about 1 month ago My grade level is very lucky because we each get one- they are the ones mounted on the wall with the projector over them. Sounds like technology at your school is like my school- we had two COWS (computer on wheels) at the beginning of last year- they didn't make them out of the computer room until the end of the year. It take so long- I am hoping they are ready for school to start- it is in my classroom now. We are just waiting for the district to install it. |

We finally got two desktop computers in each classroom in the middle of this year. Our school mission statement says something about preparing students for the 21st Century, but somehow we're doing it with a mixture of 19th and 20th Century technology. | Posted about 1 month ago I would like one right now, but it makes me nervous. With training, I'll get over it. A witty woman is a treasure; a witty Beauty is a power.

Sounds like my school- using the 20th century technology. We have one computer for the classroom teacher, and you can get more from our computer lab- but they are old and don't always work! Our mission statement and site plan says the same thing about technology- but my principal sort of drops the ball. |

If your budget is tight, you should look into Mimio Interactive whiteboards. If you have a computer and a projector (which it sounds like you do), this device gives you ALL the benefits of an interactive whiteboard at half the price. The basic package that I bought costs $550, and it is portable and can travel through the school quickly and efficiently. All you need is a standard whiteboard to attach the device, and once you have the software downloaded on your computer, it works exactly like an interactive whiteboard. I have no clue why people would spend thousands of dollars on this sort of technology when Mimio can provide everything you need. Go to www.mimio.com if you want some more info. I know $550 doesn´t come easily, but you may be able to convince somebody to buy it because it is cheap AND it can go easily between different classrooms (it folds up into the size of a hole-punch). The company is excellent when it came to service and they were willing to come to our school and do a demo if we needed it, free of charge. Luckily, I saw it at NCTM and knew it was the solution to my never-ending desire to have an interactive whiteboard. I could write for hours about this product, so don´t hesitate to contact me if you have some more questions. I had to refrain myself from writing all day about it. "All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible.
