I usually teach a day camp for about a month of the summer. The relaxed schedule, even though I'm working, makes it still seem like summer.

Do you work over the summer? What kind of job do you find works well for teachers?

Summer camps are great, i agree!  Before I was married and had a baby, I would love looking for adventure/travel summer camps!  Or even sleepover camps in places OTHER than where I lived, there are some great excursions put on by "Outward Bound" that are usually in incredible places and with older (middle and high) kids... it's a great way to travel a little and meet some awesome personalities!

These days I usually either try to find a different age group for summer school-esque jobs, or tutoring, to mix it up a bit.

This year I swore I'd try to find something exciting, I'm gonna check back in here later and see if anyone can help me come up with anything... !!

Hi Jill,

Thank you for inviting me to your Summer Fun Group!  It sounds great.  As far as I know I will be working a Summer Camp program at a Christian school near my home for kids K - Fifth grade.  I am very excited.  I have been teaching for 17 years in the Early Chilhood field including first and secong grade, but have never worked and Summer group with K-5.  I have substitute taught all of these ages and am looking forward to hearing about some fun and creative ideas to keep the kids happy and stimulated.  I do know we will be going on field trips and swimming every week.  Thank you!

Your friend,

:)Sue

I'm contemplating it, but I'm not sure what I want to do. Unfortunately, it would have to be nights.

Since the inmates don't get to go home for the summer, we'll have classes as usual here at the penitentiary. And that's OK with me since my wife can't really take too much time off from her job this summer, either. She's the Regional Director for an outfit called Elderhostel Inc., a non-profit international organization that arranges educational tours for "mature people" (i.e. geezers like me.)

But I do have a few days off at the end of June, and, if my wife can arrange to get those same days off, we could at least take some day-trips to other places in New Mexico and in Utah and/or Colorado such as Chaco Canyon, Mesa Verde, Canyonlands, Hovenweep, etc.

Next summer, we're hoping to be able to take an Alaskan cruise - inshallah.

Hi!  I'm, Shani!  And I am going to be working a preschool this summer as a teacher's aide.

Thanks Jill for the invite.  I will be working through out the summer.  My place doesn't close.  I work at a day care so I'll be working all summer.  I enjoy it though.  I love working with these little ones.  I'm working with two year olds and I've had so much fun with them this week on ocean and sea life I can't wait to do more with them.

I'm working in a K-2 at risk summer program - basically summer school and I'll be with rising 1st graders.  I haven't done it before but the pay is very good so I'm trying it.  Will still have about 5 weeks free.

I'm actually looking forward to not working and having some breathing space after the end of my first year teaching! I am, however, doing a couple of summer PDs that I'm hoping will be really valuable for next year.

I am working over the summer because of the extra money.  I don't know anyone who is here because of the students.  I do, however, believe we will provide an active learning environment and help them succeed.  I hope someday my first priority to work the summers is to help the students and not pay bills.

I would like to take the summer off, but I will be working full-time.  I'm just going to have to make the best of things.
