The school that I student taught had used Accelerated Reader. It was a great motivator for the kids to read, especially those students who don't like to. After reading a book, the student takes a quiz and receives points based on how many correct answers they got on the quiz. In this school, they could use their points to get small treats or toys. All of the students really enjoyed taking the quizzes. This also helps students and teachers to check the students comprehension when they are reading independently.
