hotteacher, you ignore the fact that while housing values have dropped the prices of food, fuel, etc. have jumped dramatically. Some of the recently homeless were actually just renters of homes or apartment buildings that were foreclosed on. In this situation the renter frequently loses their security deposit, and is struggling to now find another home and come up with the security deposit. There is always someone out there who will "play the system", but to think that the bulk of these people deserve it is ridiculous.

As much as it pains me to see homeless students, the bulk of this lies in the hands of their parents. Can't afford a home? Don't buy one. It's as simple as that. I know that shady deals were made, but it's no more complex than buying more than you can spend.
