About Me:
My personal and professional mission is to do what ever it takes to advocate for families to successfully foster their child’s recovery from mental illnesses, such as, depression, anxiety, and hopelessness associated with an emotional behavioral disorder and/or severe emotional disturbance. The outcomes of this mission are to promote confidence, resiliency, high self-esteem,self-awareness, self-reflection and positive character and morals in our future society; our children. To achieve this mission, I am currently researching the following: • Negative stigmatism our society has towards mental illness • How school districts and community based mental health agencies service children who are “labeled” with a severe emotional disturbance and emotional behavioral disorder • Human learning and development • Sensory integration • Alternative medicine • Interdisciplinary collaboration, which includes: teachers, related service providers, school nurses, school psychologists, counselors, school administration (particularly special education directors), mental health providers, social workers, case managers, primary care physicians and nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, non-profit organizations, universities, and researchers. • Quality of education the above professionals receive in mental illnesses to implement adequate care plans from universities and professional development From the research I am hoping to develop the following: • An adapted Individual Education Plan (IEP) that will align with human learning and development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and family-centeredness while being electronically available to EVERYONE who works with the child (including the family) to most importantly reduce the amount of paperwork for all professionals. • Best practices conferences, workshops, seminars, webinars, meetings, and/or classes tailored to meet the needs of families (including parents or guardians and siblings), the classroom, schools, mental health care agencies, and medical agencies and clinics. • Best practices conferences, workshops, seminars, webinars, meetings, and/or classes for school administrators focusing on organizing efficient problem-solving learning communities with available human resources and how to meet the laws of special education and government mandates at the leadership level to make the best possible decisions accordingly. Since my biggest fight is for interdisciplinary collaboration, I welcome all who want to help this mission become a reality! Please give me your feedback! Thanks for listening, April Morrison
