Technical colleges across Georgia are getting the smallest part of the funding pie. Technical colleges receive 22% of the revenue from the state. This means that salaries are low, morale is low, benefits are good if affordable, stability is median with more leaving than being recruited. Our Leadership just changed at the top, and we are looking at more changes at the secondary level. These changes bring in new culture but our academics are the same. Advancement comes to those who like to bulldoze through the system. Those that just want to be with the students and be sure they are learning all they need to become excellent employees get trampled.
Make sure you know how to negotiate a contract. Be certain everything is in writing of what you are to do. The "And other duties as assigned" clause does not specify time away from family. Be certain that you want to be an "exempted" employee according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Be certain that you want to give 40+ hours to a cause - although well meaning, at times, has double standards for the employees.
