My state's governor has just proposed a statewide budget that elects not to give teachers a pay raise. This would be the second year of that in the past 10 years. What all states pay teachers is abominable. These people are the ones who will be shaping and helping children acquire skills for the 21st century. Folks give much air time to wanting educators to make sure all students are learning. We must work overtime regardless of whether we are teacher or administrator. We have to take classes constantly to keep our certificates valid and yet the pay they give affords us a pauper's life. Professional athletes make millions and millions of dollars but the folks who are educating our next generation of adults who will lead this country make pennies. It's so absurd.

Wao! those salaries are amazing, here in Puerto Rico a teacher begins to earn 1,600, per month, and the salary raises up depending on the negociations with the government. We all begin in the same scale. If the government raise the salary depends on the budget searching.

Please address these questions asked several months ago. I hold a Masters in Education, have 9+ years classroom experience, and am considering a career move. Please help!"Would be interested in information which indicated what types of jobs teachers who leave the profession typically go to and the average wages in those fields. What type of employers are looking for the skill set teachers usually posses?"

Well i'm pretty darn close to those figures, yet is some school districts in my area with my education level and yrs of experience (2) I would be much higher, and this is from school districts within a 25 mile radius of where I teach.

How did you do this article without mentioning superintendents? District level adiministrators?
Either way, all educators need a merit pay/bonus system to allow for hard work to be better rewarded.

I teach in a suburb of New York City and all teachers in my district have the same salary scale no matter what subject or level you teach. Counselors are also on the same salary scale. Also the teaching salaries quoted are entry level salaries in the New York area.
